For me, the size scenario an opportunity to build trust, rapport, reliance and/or dependence, etc. between the giant and tiny. So particularly for gentler fluffy stories, it comes almost naturally.
That seems to be a very common sentiment for people who love gentle/strangers scenarios- a growing relationship that stems from the size difference itself. Which is exactly what I mean when I say I love seeing a married couple “fall in love again”. It’s like they’re thrust into a completely new relationship but still adore the person for who they are.

Weirdly I’m not as much into existing couples dealing with shrinking, usually because the content I’ve seen where that is the case tends to be rather sad?
That’s something I never realized but it’s true, isn’t it? Even in my story ideas with married couples there tends to be a bit of tragedy that it focuses on. I do love the sadder stories though, they tend to really stick with me. But I need a couple dozen happy or smutty stories in between so I don’t get too upset.
And I agree 100% about the endings to crueler stories. It’s something I really struggle to conclude in my own ideas. I’m fine with a cruel ending if it’s a short story, but if it’s something that is multiple chapters and I’m invested in it, it doesn’t feel like the best pay-off. Of course, it totally depends on the author’s talents as well! I definitely don’t write it off completely.
I tend to prefer a tiny victory as the ending. Where they escape or take down the giant. Gives one the opportunity to write a clever tiny which is so much fun!
