      “I get it, your friend handed me to you in a gift bag, but I am not yours. You can’t own a person,” Zoey said with her hand raised.

      Rachel touched her finger to Zoey’s left shoe. “Sure, but my friend did gift you to me to be your caretaker. If you are responsible for protecting, feeding, comforting and clothing someone, how is that different than owning?”

      “So I am free to leave?”

      Rachel held up her finger and thumb to demonstrate Zoey’s height. “Conceptually yes, but practically it would be impossible for you to safely leave. Besides, we can eat birthday cake soon. So please join me.”

      Zoey nodded and walked up to Rachel’s chest. She accepted Rachel’s hug.
