I agree that this varies from relationship to relationship.

At my job we have a saying, “Never put anything in an email that you wouldn’t want to see as an exhibit in a legal proceeding.” I feel confident that I could engage in roleplaying with an anonymous Size acquaintance without forming an improper emotional attachment, but I wouldn’t want to have to defend the transcript to my partner.

I’m much more comfortable keeping to my current practice of writing stories with one or more Size acquaintances in mind and hoping they eventually figure it out.

@littlest-lily Yup, I do the “quick sensation” daydream too. Usually just looking at my open hand, then curling my fingers and imagining how she feels against my palm. Just a few seconds away from reality.

@The-Big-G I don’t recruit among my irl acquaintances because I couldn’t trust myself not to say something creepy. I don’t do it in a F/m context, and I sure as hell wouldn’t do it in a M/f context.

The OP was singling out F/m for the particular harms it can cause. The (straight) male gaze problem is present in all media and genres, and M/f is no exception.

It’s not weird at all. The shrunken dog’s eventual return home is a device to increase sympathy for the shrunken woman while also holding out a poignant hope that there might be a mainstream resolution (woman rescued, both her and the dog restored).

Whether that’s how it turns out remains to be seen. But now we’ve got would-be rescuers searching dresser drawers and shoe boxes and imagining all the dreadful things that must be happening to the shrunken woman, and that’s my jam.
