like ugh it just makes me tingle ~
especially when that’s his reputation amongst the poor tinies that have encountered him. He loves being called a brute and upholding that reputation, except with the one special tiny lady he adores 😍

@ivythefairie There is clearly an appeal to being able to get what you want just by grunting.

Let’s be honest, depending on the size of the giant, you really can’t help but be seen as a brute. A big man in a tiny fragile world, even the gentlest touch breaking glass, the tenderest courses you can give your little lover feeling like aggressive groping. There is such a thing as to strong my friends, and it would be a very interesting angle to touch on in a giant story.

@mrgoblinging7 There are a couple of Superman stories about how he’s always holding back for fear of destroying everything around him and how it’s actually a relief to go up against a mega-villain because he doesn’t have to hold anything back.

I oddly don’t use brute much if at all in my writing. Now that it’s been brought to my attention I have to wonder why. I certainly have characters that would fall into what that word would imply, a monstruous powerful being using it’s power to control or harm those smaller then it.

Then I realized, most of my brutish characters are the main character or friends of the main in those stories. Would they see themselves as brutes? Not likely, they often see themselves as in the right due to size and circumstances. And in those forays they seldom describe themselves as even big. No, it’s the shrunken that is described as small, tiny, and even at times helpless.

When I do write from the Shrunken’s perspective and they are describing the larger beings I tend to use titan, colossal, and massive. Towering even, yet ignore such a simple and apt word like Brute.

Well, Thank you for reminding me of it. Hopefully I’ll think to incorporate it from time to time.

When I hear the word brute, it goes with force and power, but also clumsy oaf, watch yourself you brute or big gal lute, it can mean selfish or uncaring of others through your actions, without thought using only impulsive animal instincts.
                  dictionary:

                  1. An animal other than a human; a beast.
                  2. A brutal, crude, or insensitive person.
                    adj.
                  3. Of or relating to animals other than humans: “None of the brute creation requires more than food and shelter” (Henry David Thoreau).
                  4. Characteristic of a brute, especially:
                    a. Entirely physical: brute force.
                    b. Lacking or showing a lack of reason or intelligence: a brute impulse.
                    c. Savage; cruel: brute coercion.
                    d. Unremittingly severe: was driven to steal food through brute necessity.
                  5. Coarse; brutish.
[From Middle English, nonhuman, from Old French brut, from Latin brūtus, stupid; see gwerə- in Indo-European roots.]
                    Brutus -
Marcus Junius Brutus - Assassin of Julius Caesar
                    also:
a legendary Trojan hero, great-grandson of Aeneas and supposed ancestor of the British people. In medieval legend he was said to have brought a group of Trojans to England and founded Troy Novant or New Troy (London).
Popeye the sailor’s arch-nemesis who was always trying to steal his girlfriend, Olive Oil.
                    Researching can be fun.
