Lillia and Chuck went to the dollar store one night after getting groceries. In the aisles they found small, foam doll shoes, labelled “Watch Me Grow!” The directions said add water and shoe polish to the mixture and you would have pseudo-ready made shoes. They found some polish and decided to try it out.

When they got home, Chuck put two cups of water, 3 tbsp of polish, and the foam doll shoes into a Tupperware container. At first, nothing happened except for a few bubbles.
“You didn’t add enough.” Lillia flatly declared, placing her placid boredom onto an innocent man. “You always screw it up.”
“It’s just a dollar store gag, Lills.” Chuck replied, rolling his eyes.
“You’re such an idiot.” Lillia responded. But as the next insult reached the innards of her lips, the shoes sprang to life. Suddenly, the water level lowered, and the shoes started to glow and grow. Within a minute, as the two watched, the once tiny foam shoes had grown into a pair of shiny women’s size 8 ballerina flats.
“Wow. You did something right for once.” Lillia said. Chuck was enamored.
“Well, put them on.” He replied. Lillia rolled her eyes.
“You know they aren’t my type.” Lillia picked up a shoe and peered at it. “Pretty cool though.”
“Here, humor me.” Chuck went back to their room and pulled out a blue dress Lillia only wore on formal occasions. “Dress up for me.”
“Still an idiot.” Lillia replied. But she knew he was right - they were too bored not to do something silly out of these silly gag shoes. She put on the blue dress and the shoes.
“Well,” Chuck inquired, “how do they fit?”
“Right on your face, you weirdo.” Lillia did have to admit to herself that they seemed to fit well, almost “too” well. The foam around her feet formed a connection that literally “form fit.” She looked as cute as a button. And she hated it. But Chuck thought the absurdity was funny.
“We’ll have to get more from the dollar store.” Chuck replied. What happened next caught him by surprise. As the shoes fit around Lillia’s feet, they started to shed the excess material they had absorbed, and began to shrink. The only “problem” was that Lillia began to shrink with them.
“Not a chance, you twat.” Lillia replied, her voice laced with a very slight squeak, as if one-tenth of Alvin and the Chipmunks had entered into her vocal chords. Chuck could see her stature dwindle and he blushed and enjoyed the show.
“Aww, doll, you’re cute when you’re cute and flustered.” Chuck replied. Lillia immediately took her shrinking hand and slapped Chuck’s thigh.
“Don’t call me ‘doll.’” she replied, as her voice diminutized and softened. She was now under four feet tall.
“Doll, doll, doll.” Chuck teased. Lillia simply rolled her eyes at him.
“I’m taking these off.” she squeaked. But as her left foot shoved down onto the heel of the right shoe, she found it bound to her skin. “Oh, what the heck? These stupid things are stuck.” she mused. “This was your idea.” Lillia stood tall at Chuck and pointed at him. “Fix this, idiot.” She was too distracted by her pride to see that Chuck was taller than her - while he sat down!
“What, doll, you want me to take them off for you?” he teasingly inquired, raising his eyebrows and fixating his gaze at her, with a smile.
“Ugh! Just get me some water and that polish.” She was pointing around the room at these things as if she were the world’s tiniest commander. “Do I have to do everything?”
At this point, Lillia’s squeaking was reduced to cute, high pitched nonsense. Her stature made her little commanding gestures seem even more absurd and adorable. Her lack of awareness made the cuteness intensify.
The shoes then proceeded to harden. They finally shrank back to their original size. And as they did, Lillia felt them “harden” and detach from her feet. She took one off and threw it at Chuck’s face.
But she missed. The shoe landed 10 feet in front of her. Or about three inches for the normal size inclined. Chuck lay down on his arms and chest and gently flicked the shoe back towards her.
“You might want to keep it - lest you step on some ant poo, ‘little doll’” Chuck’s final two words cemented Lillia’s situation, finally, into her mind. She had shrunk.
Suddenly blushing and stricken with panic, Lillia’s mind went into salvage mode. Her eyes widened as it became clear to her that Chuck was in her entire field of view. But she had to rationalize.
“You…you…” she felt her voice tremble beneath her fears. “You…idiot!” In her contorted mind, all she could think was to slap him in the face. When she did, her tiny hand landed with a ‘smack’ onto him. To her. To him, it was unfelt as he watched her tiny hand was unable to fire a single synapse from his cheek to his brain.
“I’m bored,” he teased. He suddenly picked her up, and placed the missing shoe back onto her foot. “You’re my little little dolly wolly.”
Lillia squirmed. She wrigled with all her might. But the worst part was not that she couldn’t move. It was that she couldn’t contain her blush. They both knew.
“And you’re sooooo cute!” Chuck gave Lillia a kiss on her little forehead. This only served to make tiny Lillia blush beyond repair.
“AHHHHHH!!” Lillia tinily squeaked out. Chuck saw that she was simply not accepting her new size. He changed gears from “tease” to “comfort.”
“You’ll be alright. I got you. But seriously, maybe we can fix this. I can go to the dollar store and see if you can grow in a new pair?”
Lillia saw Chuck’s earnestness. Her new “situation” gave her a newfound respect for someone she wanted to berate. Her new size was neutering her attitude. She was personally, on the inside, becoming like a cute little doll.
“Yes, yes please.” She nodded. Chuck saw that she was still afraid and he wouldn’t pass an opportunity to be helpful to a little lady. They went to the dollar store and got another Watch Me Grow! kit. Chuck fastened the small, foam doll shoes onto Lillia as best he could.
      “Here goes nothing…”
Chuck added the water and shoe polish as he held Lillia above the water line. He allowed Lillia to sit in his hand with her placing the foam shoes into the tupperware’s water. She started to feel her feet bubbling.
“I think it’s working…” she said, as if Chuck could her. But her voice was too soft. Indeed, the foam began to expand. Soon, their expansion left her tiny feet. Chuck put his fingers in the water and attempted to put them back on her. The shoes absurdly expanded and exanded on Lillia’s tiny feet until they were, quite literally, bigger than her. One shoe physically moved off to the side. The other became essentially a boat that Lillia was now captain of.
Lillia hoped against hope that she wasn’t going to permanently become doll-dized and doll-tamed. But this last experiment flushed her last flicker of doubt. Her new life was one of wearing doll-clothes for the rest of time.
