It’s just a personal preference. No one is doing butt crush “wrong.”
I’m primarily into non-fatal content, so I regularly keep my (main) tiny characters alive, even if it means a scenario defies reality (I mean, the whole shrunken/giant person thing completely defies reality, but let’s stick to the smaller details). Butt crush and Crush (general) scenarios are one of those categories I’ll liberally apply that principle to.
Sometimes, enjoying a fantasy is less about how it would intersect with reality and more about emphasising certain aspects of that fantasy that make it enjoyable, e.g. helplessness, domination, fear, aggression, something more sensory, etc. But it’s also typically easier suspend belief if you’re into something in the first place. Or to throw in a deus ex machina.
