I understand that some people see AI art as diminishing the creative landscape and taking legitimate artist’s money.

I also know places like DeviantArt ban the posting of AI art. So I’m mostly just curious about if such things are allowed here.

@Mrgoblinging7 I, for one, object to describing these statistical compilers as “intelligent.” Same for large language models like ChatGPT. They’re parlor tricks, and if you accept their output as art or literature that just shows how low your standards are.

I don’t know about the sites policy on it. But my option personal is that it always looks a touch off. Something is always at a wrong angle. And the eyes are usually wonky.

But if you like it. Cool.

As for stories using a chatbot. I don’t know. In my constant fear I might steal accidently from another writer I don’t usually read others stories unless recommended by someone I know. That way my stories are my ideas. 😁

As someone who both draws and writes, the infatuation with the AI stuff freaks me out a wee bit. And it all does feel a bit off to me, it hasn’t been the highest quality content imo, at least not yet. So I suppose I don’t really see the “point” in sharing stuff like that?

But I do get that it’s novel and interesting, I’ve played around with some of it and it can be entertaining. I don’t judge anyone for having fun with it. And I suppose I see some merit in artists being able to automate certain parts of their creative process and how AI might be able to help with that, maybe.

As far as posting here (not that it’s my call of course), I think if it’s clearly labeled as AI generated then… sure? Though if these forums became flooded with it I’m sure I’d feel frustrated as I personally don’t really have much interest in it, I’d much rather see actual artists get promoted. But that’s just my 2 cents!

Well, continuing the trend of add my opinion to something I have no control over, lol, I don’t think we’re in a place to discriminate against AI art, as a fetish. We’re too desperate for content and people to consume it, you know?

I know I’m not an artist so I don’t really have skin in the game here, but as long as it’s not spammed, and labeled, maybe, isn’t it fine?

              Power is choice.

@Mrgoblinging7 As long as it fits our content guidelines, you can totally post AI content. I understand some folks might be sensitive about it, so mentioning that it is indeed AI generated, as to not ‘deceive’ anyone would more than likely be appreciated.

I think some folks might not want to see the Community Creations section inundated with AI content, so if you find yourself posting frequently (since AI can spit them out so quickly), I highly suggest creating a thread.

As someone who does not have the skill/time/ability to do art, but has a very active imagination.

Ai “art” is awesome in my opinion. I am not comfortable calling it art yet. However I consider people how hate it, being on the same level of people who look down on animation

@BigGrumpy Yes, I saw somebody calling AI generated content just that. “Generated content.” It fits how it actually works more than calling it “art”.

@tiny-ivy “Statistically-generated content,” to really capture the lack of creative agency.

Bumping this thread because we have some new users and the AI policy hasn’t yet been added to the Rules page.

in my discord, i do not really have a policy (having a seperate channel for diffrent kinds of ai art would be annoying)
my personal rule though is, if i generate the art myself it goes into ai art channel
if i just find it, i post it, if i know its ai i mention it.
(i am hoping we go the way south korea, did with ai requiring a watermark)

Since I was the guy who posted AI art…

Some aspects of this debate are the same as 2-3 years ago and some things have moved on. Some people will always see the actual production of AI images as theft. I respect that and won’t try to convince them otherwise.

There are basically two problems on boards and such, 1) discouraging struggling artists who are developing their talent, and 2) flooding the board with repetitious slop.

I only shared what I did (and I have a few others I was thinking about dropping in a few days) because I wanted to “interact” with the community and see who is awake and what they’ll respond to.

I’ve always encouraged artists and I’ve never flooded slop.

I was a collager back in the day and today AI is my collage tool (I wish it were my Poser/Render tool, but AI doesn’t appear to be headed that way any time soon.) I’d say I spend more time getting one image right than I ever did in Photoshop on something in 2006.

That doesn’t mean my images are good, but they are intentional and crafted and mean something to me. That’s why I never post them without a “slug” (a story note that is supposed to provide context and direction for the imagination).

I don’t know how many images is too many images, but if I am ever motivated to post my considerable private collection that I’ve carefully crafted myself, I can assure you that it will be on DeviantArt and I’ll offer occasional links here to the collection there.

My goal is that you shouldn’t have a make a policy because I posted. Heck, if you all don’t like my images (AI or not) then there’s no point in posting them anyway.

yea, i am working on lore for a dragon themed fatasy series
                                (none size, and non smut)
i like using it for figuring out the basics of what some charaters look like. (it was a massive fight, to get imaiges for the dragons, that i actually like)

@BigGrumpy I love using AI for Dungeons and Dragons sessions. For better or worse, in every group I’ve ever been in, I end up being the designated DM and AI art helps so much with prep, props, and presentation.

And sometimes AI music too, though there’s so much good stuff on YouTube already it isn’t worth it to slug it out with the AI music generators to get something you are looking for–especially when you need hours of music. Might as well just give in and use fantasy game soundtracks.
