It’s usually context specific for me. I’ve gushed already about giants in armour or some form of uniform (particularly of authority), e.g. medieval fantasy setting, post-apocalyptic world, etc. I’m also on board with the corporate or business casual look. Honestly, a well fitting shirt and/or suit and good pair of boots won’t go amiss. Anything that cuts a nice figure into a fella, showing some effort in his appearance.

@miss-lillipants Armor is sooo cool. You could do medieval fantasy armor, maybe futuristic mech-inspired armor, there’s so many possibilities!

I love the idea of having a bunch of tinies care for it too. It’s so extreme- like the giant is wearing an entire building.

@blehb I love amour, the heavier the better. To be fair, armoured tinies can be fun too! I might have bought an 1/18 scale WH40K Adepta Sororitas, and even at 4 inches tall she’s pretty badass (and yes, the company is really called “JoyToy”) 🙄

@foreverlurk Oh yes, tinies ready for battle are a ton of fun. Maybe the giant is amused by their attempts to fight, or is genuinely surprised by their abilities. I love the makeshift borrower-style armor myself.

Adepta Sororitas is such a beautiful army. I would be tempted to pick them solely because of their miniatures. Did you paint her at all?

@blehb Armour can be fun to take off from tinies, in a weird sensual way. It’s hard to explain but removing soft clothes is one thing, but removing heavy ceramite armor pieces? A bit of effort to get to my prize 😣

Sadly this isn’t a mini painted for tabletop gaming (those are much smaller, 1:48 scale), it’s a miniature “doll” for my collection. Yeah, I know, I have dolls, judge me all you want hehe 😊

I don’t have Battle Sisters in my armies but Saint Celestine calls to my heretics-purging, righteous-fury-Paladin inclinations. Also, bonus points if you can guess why I love the Adeptus Sororitas so much? Here’s a clue:

Not a whole lot of Dolphin themed 40K armies.
Now you might call her a doll, but I see an action figure. I bet she would go on all kinds of adventures!

I mean, it’s the reverse of the ‘tiny doms giant’ trope: a trained soldier, in heavy plate, and armed to the teeth, is a force to be reckoned with. They’ve devoted their lives to this purpose, spent countless hours in training and equipped themselves with the best they can possibly can…

…All of that, and yet they’re still nothing. They’re a peanut to a grape, at best: protected, to be sure, but it’s just a mild inconvenience. At the end of the day, they’re both snacks.

                      Power is choice.

@foreverlurk Oh duh. Literally everything you said describes a figurine over the typical miniatures. My favorite thing about 40k is seeing peoples paintings so my mind immediately goes there. 😅

I don’t have any myself, but I think the quality on some figurines is so amazing! And I would love to get into painting miniatures as well, but that’s another craft I don’t need to distract myself with. What other figurines do you have if you don’t mind sharing?

I have an appreciation for the nuns with guns. Like I said, I would consider choosing them, but to be embarrassingly honest, they’re a little too dominatrix for me to play and I would feel shy about it LOL. I am too much of a sub for them. 😝

Like peeling a hard boiled egg. 🤔

                          Or a little shrimp, hehe.

I don’t want to rant and rave about WH40K but I’ve been playing close to 20 years (+/- 25 if you include 2nd ed. Space Hulk). I bought, and sold, many different armies for many editions. Back in the days, I tried to paint my own minis. LOL. After that epic fail, I commissioned people to paint them, but now I have my own slave teenager at home who has infinitely more artistic talent than I do that does it for free. 😁

My figurines collection started without me even trying, just slowly bought over the years, collector editions games and blurays. I have superheroes, video game & anime characters, all in the 4" to 12" range. I should get my collection properly displayed, still a bit so self-conscious. Speaking of, the next thinkg I’m after is a Phicen doll, they are 10" high which is still too big for my taste but apparently their “skin” is made of this soft silicon which feels human to the touch, and seamlessly covers their entire body (again, feel free to judge me people - I’m still really curious to hold one! 😖 )

@foreverlurk I’m a 40k noob. I have some friends super into it and I love hanging out and watching them play. I considered getting my own army, but I already have so many other projects I’m doing- I don’t need to invest time and money into something else. 😅 Maybe in the future though! I still love looking at paintings and I learned quite a bit about the lore while researching the armies.

Looked into the Phicen figurines and found people making mini-me versions of themselves. It’s extremely impressive and I’m sort of tempted to try it??? Maybe we need a DD arts and crafts day. 👀

And there I go again trying to get into ANOTHER hobby…

I’ll be honest, I’ve been thinking about trying my hand with WH40K miniatures. I was leaning towards Astarties, ultimately, since they seem versatile, but after the last page or so of posts… I’m wondering if I should go Sororitas, scratch two itches at the same time. It certainly seems tempting now.

@blehb I come from Space Hulk which is a really frustrating fun game that dates back to before Games Workshop got greedy. Armoured marines with angelic names purging heretics called to me hehe.

Some artists are modding their Phicen dolls, some look really life-like (the default heads are uncanny-valley territory). I’m really curious about the “skin” feel. I’ve seen people use them for all sorts of… things. Personally, at that price point I’d be VERY careful with what I do to my dolls, hehe (that’s kinda meta, I wouldn’t want to break my SW either).

Sisters of Battle and Astartes are both solid choices. I’d say the Astartes are a bit more beginner-friendly in terms of rules. Just stay away from AdMech. 😵 If you’re unsure about the game and maybe want to test it before diving in fully, I’ve heard great things about the starter set:

Or if you have friends that can show you how to play, that’s even better. Oh, and get ready to spend quite a few $$$ 🤑
