Was talking about this video from an animator expo a few years back with a friend today and wondered if any of you had seen it before. Girl has an… interesting dream about her boyfriend.

@skysayl YES. I have watched that one… too many times lol. It’s still one of my favorite, but it could have been even better. I’m blown away that top talents got together and decided to create a G/t animation, out of all possibilities.

The original plan was for the woman to actually shrink, but the setting in which the woman looks like a cockroach was added later:

“Originally, the story was about a woman who became small and fought enemies that appeared in the small world, such as cats, hamsters, Roomba and even cockroaches, but the relationship between the three parties (boyfriend, woman and enemies) became too complicated, so the cockroaches (enemies) and the woman were combined.”

So the whole Kafka-esque plot was put together after they couldn’t make the original SW idea work. Sad, since I would have liked to see her shrinking out of her clothes in such a nice animation style.

@skysayl Curiously enough, just this weekend someone posted a GIF from this on Reddit and a couple of people had never seen it before. I therefore resolved to trim some GIFs from this down to under 1MB for posting here, along with a link to the video.

There really isn’t much dialogue, but the version on Vimeo has Russian (I think) dubbed over the original Japanese. Here’s a version without the dubbing.

Aw, dang, that’s a little disappointing to know but I won’t complain about quality animation.

I don’t know if you’ve seen Jaxon Sorby’s “Small Molly”, but he created a few sketches and animations which reminded me of this. Here’s a comparison between his work (left) and to the right a reference sketch from 20min Walk from Nishi-Ogikubo Station…
