From my point of view I’d rather not have underaged people accessing the site but as far as I know we are still using the honour system

They are trying to pass such a law in Canada, too. I think it depends where the website is physically hosted, and from where you’re trying to access it. But I share you worries about the future of privacy and censorship.

For what it’s worth, I did see size content before the age of 18 (shocking, I know!), I wasn’t traumatized by it and it helped me tremendously on my road to acceptance. Just learning that I wasn’t alone, for one.

Australia is similar - the laws will come into effect in December. Given the vagueness with things like what constitutes “reasonable steps” (for websites to prevent Australian children under 16 from having accounts), and what @foreverlurk said about the location of web hosts, I don’t imagine that DD will actually be affected by them. But I’m no expert.

What shits me is that it’s clearly not about safety for young people on the internet - or anyone’s safety really.

It seems to be up to the individual platforms to determine how they want to verify ages. From what I read, legal documents shouldn’t be a requirement (ie, you shouldn’t need to provide your real driver’s license or passport) and instead should use things like face identification or activity tracking to determine ages.

The only upside is that the government seems to be manually selecting what websites are affected – that’s why there was such a big fuss about whether or not YouTube was included – and I think Daddy’s Dollhouse can fly under the radar for that one.

@TakoAlice8 As far as I know, I’m the only person on this site working in the adult industry, so there are a few points I need to clear up. Fifteen states here in the US passed draconian AV laws that started in January and it’s impacted everyone. It’s not where the site is hosted, it’s where it’s accessed. Arizona can’t make me do shit, but they can block my IP so nobody in Arizona can access my content. That’s how it works, people forget that IPs can be blocked. It’s been up to every website to install more than an AV cover page with a “click here to access this site if you’re of legal age”. Many of those AV sites require you to create an account and that does mean uploading a photo ID. Maybe not on the site itself, but with the AV service. That’s actually the point. The currency of the 21st century is information. If you share that info they can sell all that bundled up with where you like to go to the highest bidders. It’s not about protecting minors. A fake ID is easy enough to get. It’s about harvesting information.

@The-Big-G Obviously underage people should not be on a site with nsfw content.
However, having to show your ID to prove your 18 seems like too much for a lot of people because it’s a big privacy violation.
Showing my ID on the internet makes me feel very uncomfortable.

                Just chillin down here.

Also I only feel comfortable with being tiny.

You do have a lot good points. I believe your assumption will be true. That answers what I have been worried about.

Yeah, they definitely didn’t have children in mind when they came up with these shitty laws. If we all understand this much, we must stop getting mixed up in debates about what underage users should be allowed to access. We shouldn’t even acknowledge this deceptive justification for their coordinated mass-surveillance laws.

They start with the age-old excuse of monitoring porn sites before slowly creeping their dirty fingers into every other aspect of our digital lives. It’s the first stepping stone to normalize future more invasive policies.

I genuinely hate the future we’re heading to with all my guts… I hope this will at least incentivize more developers to look into decentralized Web 3.0 alternatives that are much more difficult to control, censor or monitor by a single government or company.

Mastodon said a couple months ago that enforcing age verification is essentially impossible given the decentralized nature of their technology. Maybe a site migration to a decentralized forum might be necessary in the future?
