Otherwise it’s the most random things - a woman wearing an oversized piece of clothing, or struggling to reach the top shelf at the grocery store. Or just using an everyday expression (ie. “I’d like to be as small as a mouse to hear what they said in that meeting!”)

Such an interesting subject! I’ve recently had a discussion on the origins of our kink with a woman telling me almost the same thing verbatim - a way to deal with fears and trauma. There seems to be a good degree of correlation with anxiety overall.
Don’t know about other microphiles, I’ve mentioned before that one place it could stem from is extreme shyness. Social phobia wasn’t taken as seriously back then, especially in children (“oh it’s just a phase, it’ll pass”). I guess the thought of shrinking others, making myself bigger in some situations, might have been an internal coping mecanism?
The desire to protect (or control 
) is harder to pinpoint - I always loved taking care of smaller animals, or looking after my younger siblings. Beyond that, I think I felt like I lacked control in my life - so having control over another smaller person could have been projection on my part.
Rendering someone helpless and harmless (ie. shrinking) meant I could approach her in spite of said shyness, annnd also act as caretaker. Don’t know if this makes any sense? How all this also became a kink, I’m at a complete loss to explain beyond “hurr durr, me wants tiny woman” 
@blehb I saw Arrietty as a grown ass 20-something and it blew my mind. I’m such a sucker for impossible or forbidden love stories. I’m never fully comfortable watching sizey stuff with other people, even to this day.
@i-am-insane ‘minigirl’ is pretty common for manga/manhwa, hentai and other Asian media, but hasn’t caught on anywhere else. Not having a single, easy word for “tiny woman” has been a problem for finding content since forever, made even worse by the enshittification of search engines over the years. “Shrinking woman” is even harder to look for, since you get lobbed with tons of irrelevant (to us!) stuff like weight loss, dwarfism, anorexia, etc.

I agree there’s no be-all / end-all explanation to their origin, I’m not trying to find a universal truth. I’d just like to understand myself better.

@Olo I can still tell pretty easily, but then again I’ve spent hundreds of hours generating content and my eyes can spot the telltales of generative AI.
I do love the way you describe them as being statistically generated - a much better term IMHO, closer to reality (Markov Chain).
I have to say the aspect I love the most is shrinking - the actual process itself has always been as enjoyable to me as the aftermath. Seeing girls shrink in cartoons as a child was one of my first awakening experiences to the fantasy. I would replay in my mind the scenes, that’s why even to this day I love shrinking to be a rather slow, gradual thing.
I’m hopeless in the number of times I’ve imagined using shrink rays on unsuspecting victims… 
Primary school teacher? SHRINK.
Girl I had a crush on in 8th grade? ZAP.
Woman who intimidates me? FIRE.
Cute co-worker? DOWN SHE GOES.

You seem to have had some pretty good experiences in RP, which I can’t really relate to. Maybe I haven’t been lucky, or probably I just suck at RP? I realized I simply can’t play the cruel giant, that’s not me. I can be playful, teasing, a bit rough or somewhat blissfully unaware of the fear I can cause, sure. But I love tinies too much to hurt them. Yeah I know the whole noncon shrinking is borderline and contradicts what I just said lol 
Nowadays I’d much rather indulge in well-written fiction - the community has sooo many talented people.

I love shrinking triggers like this. It’s fun when the shrinking is out of the SW’s direct control, but even more fun when it’s just slightly out of her control, ie.
Things like these are less on the nose than shrink rays or potions, and the unpredicability of her size change is chef’s kiss to me. Getting tiny at the worst best possible time…

Roleplaying wise, I love the idea of going in “blind”, full meta and not using English (or any language both partner know) for anything other than scene or action description. All dialogue in native tongue, only (and no cheating using AI translator!) Complex because it requires bilingual partners that don’t actually share a common language… hmm, I don’t know if it’s an invitation but that could be fun.

I don’t think you can get more submissive than unaware. For someone to fully dominate you and not even do it intentionally- you feel so tiny and insignificant! And the best part is that the giant could be the nicest person ever. The idea of being so mean to a tiny might repulse them… unfortunately, they’re just so much bigger and stronger than you that the bullying happens on accident. And I love how flustered they get upon becoming aware of things.

Seriously taps into soo many things I love all at once. Strangely I’m not even a fan of unaware because I’m craving interaction too much, but this is just perfect for a “first encounter”. Dominating her without even trying, or knowing. The idea that I could have hurt her fragile form by accident, just because of my sheer size is both scary and exciting. I can’t really be cruel or hurt tinies consciously, heck even in VR I feel guilty when I accidently send a tiny flying, I can’t imagine hurting her IRL… I would be sorry beyond words.

I know it’s not the same thing as taking care of beards (mine could also use some grooming btw), but you know, for all my dom inclinations, I find myself loving the idea of being comforted by a tiny lady barely the size of my pinkie.
Imagining her supporting me, drying my tears, while being so small yet having such an impact… a mere fraction of my size yet my entire world and the only thing I can focus on and that can bring me peace.
I swear I’m not the only giant that could use emotional support tinies from time to time.
