He hardly knows any French and now she wishes she’d paid closer attention to her English classes lol.

Oh you know I love this idea! 😍

If i could run away with it, I would set this in Canada as it would be relevant to our own IRL language issues that have been ongoing between French and English for generations here.

It could bring an interesting personal layer to a situation where they not only have to work out some way over the language barrier, but also overcome their own prejudices towards one another’s cultures.

@miss-lillipants When you’re part of a linguistic minority, you learn quickly not to take your language - and culture - for granted!

I love the idea of communication across the boundaries of language (and, unsuprinsingly, size). What I can imagine is a three inch tall mute woman trying to sign to me, but she’s too small for my poor eyesight to catch her signs - or I don’t know BSL/ASL.

So, plan B : she starts to trace the letters on the palm of my hand (with a twig or something). That’s assuming we share a common written language, of course. I have no idea how I’d communicate back if she’s also deaf, but that’s a start! 😁

@Olo You’re right, of course! It’s been a while since I’ve watched those… making me nostalgic here. 😲

There’s even a short recap where the retcon is explained :

@Olo Here’s some more context for your context

At the end of Bad Channels, three of the four SW regain their normal size, except for one: Nurse Ginger.

(Yes, I may have watched it a few times a lot growing up. Yes, times were hard before the internet, but at least I had a video rental store close by and the stoner dude behind the counter didn’t ask too many questions.)

@Olo I know - one thing that helps me keeping a connection with the young folks is having someone at home who’s clos(er) to that generation and doesn’t mind explaining his old man what’s what these days.

I also like to generate AI renders with 35-40 year olds sometimes, without them looking like supermodels or pretty boys. Strangely it’s harder to get the AI to generate just plain normal looking moms or dads lol.

Loved your thoughts on the fem/male/gaze. I think you nailed something important to me - agency in the face of a grim situation. I love it when a SW in a story uses everything to escape her fate, and doesn’t give up even if she ultimately fails. No fun in her being this passive victim, which can be found even in a lot of classic SW stories.

Or maybe he’s just an average dude that’s just trying to help the best he can.

Yes, this… all the while keeping his urges in check, pushing his willpower near the breaking point. That’s my trope lol. Personally I like character descriptions to remain vague, as they allow me to project more easily into the story - if the giant is a handsome, strong and tall 20-something, it makes it harder for my early midlife self to insert. 😆

Holy crap there’s something huge back there (not talking about the giant himself, but err…)

That being said IRL naturists are usually the chillest, most respectful people I’ve met. That guy is breaking about all the “laws” of nude beaches lol.

      @Olo

I’m not female so maybe not qualified to answer fully, but what I personally like about it compared to MOST (not all) male writers :

      • Larger overall focus on psychological aspects and growth of characters
      • Insights and narratives presented purely from the SW’s point of view (sooo interesting)
      • Slower pace overall, richer build-up to get to the spicy parts (bigger payoff!)
      • More space and easier for me to insert as the male/giant in stories, sometimes eerily so(!)

My take is that usually the male gaze is focused on our (male) needs without delving too much into the consequences of such actions. I guess partly because some male authors would then share at least some level of guilt or shame at their character’s actions, or also perhaps because they don’t actually care and see the SW as a sex object/tool (which is okay sometimes, not judging).

But again I want to reiterate not all male authors are like that.

Except the therapist is a giant, and therefore the source for a lot of triggering moments.

I’m curious about that part - do you mean “triggering” in a therapeutically good way? Like during CBT’s exposure part?

For my part I’ve often thought of tinies as ideal therapists, as non-threathening as they are, makes it easier to open up. No distracting eye contact either.

@blehb said in When Chaotic Good Giants Attack:

Kind of melodramatic to have such a strong response to it, but I suppose that’s just how my mind works.

Oh no don’t feel bad about having strong feelings about it, not all of us are switchers and it’s okay. I’m the same and I feel extreme discomfort at the simple thought of being tiny, vulnerable and at the mercy of someone’s whims and desires. Nightmare fuel.

I’m not too much into growing to giant size either, as I’d rather not draw undue attention to myself (in fantasy or IRL, uh) and being a literal giant is the antithesis of that. Also, I love the shrinking process too much 🤤 , so if I’m the natural huge one I miss that super important part.

There’s also something more personal about shrinking a woman down, it’s hard to explain but a giant could potentialy take any woman (they’re all small to him), but it’s not the same if I get to choose who I’m going to shrink, anticipating this moment where she’s dwindling in front of me, like… 😵

Uh, got distracted here… where was I? Ah yes - it’s okay to like only one side of this fantasy!

I’d go with shirt pocket, or if it’s cold I guess wrapped in my scarf, or maybe my hoodies hood. In fact pretty much anywhere close to me, ahem.

On second thought… can’t I just keep her in my hand all the time?! :handheld:

@SmolChlo Wait, what?! No no no, you’re my little doll, you’re supposed to play with me! But fine, if you don’t wanna… NO cheese for you, and I’ll shrink you again even smaller than a bug, then the new maze for you to solve would be in my underwear. 😏

@skysayl that’s the fun part, if he sees she’s about to win, just pick her up, disorient her and drop her somewhere else in the maze. :handheld:

Truth is, the game was rigged from the start.
