Adam knocked on her door. “Adam! Adam followed her to her Nissan Altima and got into the passenger seat. “Take a right onto the street and keep going” he said. “You’re not going to tell me where we’re going are you?” she asked. “And spoil the surprise?” he asked.

Rena kept driving for almost a half hour. “We’re near the city line” she said. “I know. Take a right at the next intersection” he said. Rena did as instructed. The road turned into dirt as she passed abandoned warehouses. “If I didn’t know any better I thought you were planning to rape, murder me, and ditch my body out here” she said. “You feel anxiety? Nervousness?” he asked. “Fuck yeah” she replied. “Good. That means the security function is working” he said. “Security function?” she asked. Adam didn’t answer. “Over there. Adam held out his hand and suddenly the gate opened on its own. “Pull forward to the warehouse” he said. “Adam…”

Adam turned the doorknob to the outside door and brought her inside. “It’s empty” she said. “Expecting something else?” he asked. “Yeah like leaking barrels of chemicals and shit” she said. Rena was shocked that not only was it empty but virtually pristine compared to the rust stains on the outside. The inside was as big as an aircraft hangar at 300ft long and 150ft wide. “Welcome to what me and my sister call the “Debug Room” he said. “Debug Room?” she asked. “The actual name for it is the Beta Testing Facility #248” he said. 248? Like your name?” she asked. “My name isn’t just my series number but also the number for the simulation. Los Angeles is the 248th simulation in the network. Denver is the 121st and so on” he said. “What’s the first?” she asked. “New York” he replied. “So debugging is what?” she asked. “Testing updates before they are installed to see if there are any errors. Your world is constantly updated to make sure things run smoothly. However, those updates are tested here first” he said. “How?” she asked. “System call. Administrator ADAM-248 requesting login for Beta Testing Facility 248” he said. “Processing. Administrator privileges confirmed. Login complete” a voice said. “Generate greater downtown Los Angeles scale level one. No population” he said. Within seconds, they were surrounded by familiar buildings seen every day except far, far more smaller. Not even the tallest buildings passed their necks.

“Holy shit!” Rena yelled jumping in fright. Her movement caused her foot to smash a small bank to rubble. “Oh god!” she cried. Adam laughed. “The look on your face is priceless. Relax. It’s only a simulation. Nothing here is real. Watch” he said. With a wave of his hand the bank was whole again. Rena looked around her. “So, this is fake? Felt pretty real to me” she said. The same physical rules for your world are replicated here. Wouldn’t be a good test otherwise. It can even generate people. You might want to stand still for this" he said. “Generate population from current system load. Set to non-interactive” he said. Instantly, ant sized humans appeared around her. “Oh, this is freaky as fuck! They’re walking and driving around my feet like I’m not even here!” she said. “It’s set so they don’t notice you. All of them are based on actual people in your world but they lack things like personally or memories. Observe” he said bending down and plucking someone up. He showed the human to her. In his hand was a young woman barely two millimeters tall. Rena had to squint but she appeared to have been in the middle of shopping looking at the bags she carried. “As you can see she’s not screaming or anything, but I can activate very basic feelings…like fear” he said waving his hand. Suddenly the tiny woman began looking around frantically and then locked eyes on Rena. “Adam this looks kinda mean” she said. “Mean? She’s a puppet Rena. She’s not real. No more than an NPC of one of your video games. Her responses are a basic program. Compared to you she might as well be a windup toy” he said. Rena was still wary. “I can make her docile” he said waving his hand again. The woman stopped cowering. Adam brought her close to his face. “She’s very pretty isn’t she?” he asked. The woman nodded. “She’s so cute when she’s flustered” he said. The woman nodded again. “Okay I get it” Rena said grinning.

“I don’t think you do” Adam said pushing her. Rena came down with a crash obliterating four square blocks and anyone in her path. Rena began panicking. “It’s not real” Adam said sternly. Rena looked around. She had utterly pancaked people under her body but not a single person seemed concerned. “Now you got it” he said extending his hand. Rena grabbed it and yanked him forward causing him to crash as well. “Something tells me you used this place for more than what you said it was for” she said. “You’d be right. There were times in needed to…relax” he said. “You mean Godzilla your ass around town” she said. Adam shrugged. “What happened to that woman?” she asked. Adam showed her his hand with a small blotch of blood. “Oh damn” Rena said. Adam scoffed. They both got up and brushed off the bodies and debris from their bodies. “This will take some…”

CRUNCH

Rena looked down to see she had crushed dozens of people under her sandaled foot. “And you were talking about me Bigfoot?” Adam asked. “I’ll show you Bigfoot” she said kicking her sandals off and grabbing Adam. They tussled around crushing anyone on the street Rena pushing him into the US Bank Tower. It toppled over like a Jenga tower. Rena was dotted with blood smears and debris dust. She was visibly laughing. “I needed this. Between work, Diego, and you I was stretched the fuck out” she said. Adam had stood up and was peering into an office building that had shockingly survived. “I know. I could detect the stress levels in you” he said. “What’re you looking at?” she asked. “Some random office workers having sex. Most curious” he muttered. Rena walked over pulverizing some rubble to see. “Haha! They are and wow they’re going at it. I thought you said they’re just fakes so why are they fucking?” she asked. “The simulation allows for basic actions like driving, walking, working their jobs, apparently the program allows for sex as well. Interesting” he said smashing the windows with his fingers and grabbing the man and woman mid sex. “Aww, you could’ve let them finish” Rena said. “I’m checking their codes. I don’t see any errors. Hold him” he said giving the bug sized naked man to her. Adam looked closer at the wriggling female between his fingers. “Odd. I see codes I did not program” he said. “Maybe it happened on its own?” Rena asked. “Like they evolved? Don’t be silly. Programs don’t evolve. They’re not alive” he said. “Coming from a program” she said. “…point taken. I will look into the matter later” he said.

Rena looked at the man still in his hand. “Uhh…what should I do with him?” she asked. “Anything you want” Adam replied. Rena leaned her head closer. “He’s kinda cute like this” she said. She leaned forward more with her lips slightly open. She took a breath, a breath strong enough to accidentally vacuum the tiny man into her mouth. Striking her throat, Rena instinctively swallowed him. “Oh crap I just ate him. Feels like I swallowed…”

“A bug?” Adam finished. Rena began chuckling. “Yeah I guess so” she said. Adam placed the woman between his fingers into his own mouth. He grabbed Rena and roughly kissed her. Using his tongue, he pushed the woman into her mouth. Looking into his eyes, she swallowed. “Congrats. You graduated from Bigfoot to Queen Kong” he laughed. She went to swat him, and Adam jumped back. He made her chase him halfway through the city. Rena had long stopped caring about those crushed flat under her bare feet. Adam reached down and plucked a convertible from the street. He shook it until two young women, the driver and passenger tumbled out into his hand. Adam popped one into his mouth, swished her around and then swallowed her alive. He offered the other to Rena. “No thanks. I’m having the guilt willies even though they’re not real” she said. Adam brushed the hair out from her face. “There may be hope for your species yet” he said. “Wait? Were you testing me?” she asked. “Yes I was. I wanted to see what you’d do with some real temptation” he replied. Rena was visibly pissed. “It was important for me to know if I was going to have a long term relationship with you” he said explaining.

Rena looked half surprised and half confused. “System call. End simulation” he commanded. The city, the people, the dead and dying, all disappeared. Speaking of Diego, let’s see what he’s up to. System call. Generate Greenwood Elementary School. Current timeframe. Scale level 20. Populate with local humans" he commanded. The warehouse was filled with the grounds of a school, in which the main building was in the center of the warehouse. System call. Replace simulation with…one moment.” he said accessing Rena’s mother’s files. “Ah. Replace simulation with location 1771 High Street. Date August 29, 2018. Population only occupants of home. Scale level 23” he said. The simulation was exchanged for a stucco brick one level home in a poor neighborhood. The neighborhood was vacant leaving the only people inside the home in question. Outside was a familiar Nissan Altima. “So, you drive your mother’s car” Adam said. Rena was too fixated on the house at her feet.

“I remember this” she muttered. “Remove roof” he commanded. The roof disappeared revealing those inside. “Dios…mama, Diego, me…” she whispered. Adam looked down. Taking a nap was little four-year-old Diego in his room. A teenage Rena was laying on her bed playing with her phone. In the living room was her mother Eliza. From her size, she was about four inches tall. Rena stared at her. The woman was busy cleaning the living room and suddenly stopped grimacing in pain. Teenage Rena got off her bed and walked to the living room. At that second, her mother Eliza straightened up and kept cleaning. Adam heard her say something in Spanish and teenage Rena replied annoyed. Rena began crying. “You stupid spoiled idiot. It was just the fucking trash!” She yelled. “Your mother hid her sickness from you” Adam said. “She did. Working two jobs to support us and took care of the house. My ungrateful ass gave her shit because she asked me to take the trash out” Rena said quietly. Rena sat down sobbing quietly. “Lo siento…lo siento…” she kept saying asking for forgiveness. “System call. Set population to passive mode” Adam order quietly. He reached down and plucked the woman up. “Rena, open your hands” he said. She looked up and opened them as he placed her mother in them. Rena went rigid in shock.

“Ma…mama?” she asked. The woman looked at the giantess. Adam sat next to her. “She set not to be scared of you if you were wondering. If anything she’s curious about you” he said. Rena lifted her closer to her face. The woman began using her hands to brush away the wet tear steaks on her face. “Haha…she always did that” Rena muttered. “I can see where you got your looks from” Adam said. “Really?” Rena asked a smiling. “You have her soft eyes. I’m sure she would be proud” Adam said. Rena leaned over and kissed him. Rena placed her mother back in the home and stood up. “We…we should head back. Diego will be getting home soon” she said. Adam nodded. “System call. End simulation” he said.

Rena drove them back to her apartment as Adam muttered and gestured now and then. “What’re you up to?” she asked. “Last surprise of the day” he said. Once they had gotten back, they got out the car and Adam walked her to her apartment door. Adam reached into his pocket and handed her a stuffed envelope. Rena opened it. “United States Department of Immigration Services?” she asked reading the header. The more she read, the more shocked she became. She found another set of documents with it and they read almost the same. She nearly fell to the ground in shock before Adam caught her. “Wha…is…are these real?!” she asked. “For you absolutely. Congratulations. You and Diego are officially United States citizens. Guess that dream of going to college isn’t so farfetched after all” he said. Rena hugged him and cried very hard into his chest. He had to bring her into her apartment she was so shaken. “Rena! Rena what’s wrong?” Diego asked coming through the door wearing his book bag. “We’re legal. No more hiding!” She replied crying. Diego laughed and cried with her as Adam watched. For him it was beyond simple to change her data in the server from illegal immigrant to naturalized citizen. Simple for him, meant all the world to them. “You don’t have to strip anymore. Anything you need I can provide for you and your brother” Adam said. Rena quietly nodded. Adam spent the rest of the day with them before logging out. The next day, Rena quit her job as a stripper. However, being one of the most popular ones there at the club, her quitting didn’t go unquestioned. It was a honest mistake but Rena told her best friend there she was legal and that woman told the manager. The question of how she became legal so quickly and easily began to swirl around and one particular person who went by the nickname “Madre Bruja”. A woman who didn’t take kindly to anyone fucking with her money…or anyone hustling in her territory.

What was coming would change everything…
