What is your earliest memory of having this fetish?
-
@TakoAlice8 That still is from the television series Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Season 6, Episode 3, “Frog Day Afternoon”.
-
@Olo yes that is one of the cartoons I remember when I was younger and was like that seemed very appealing. But like the first thing that I remember was Land of the Giants I loved Valorie so much she was my crush.
-
@Olo Thanks, I remember watching Captain Planet when I was young

Sorry for the necro but I never commented on this, I think this fetish I had for almost 15-20 years? I’m now 33.
Blame Gen V for me being more talkative and in the community more lately.
But my origins range from Ferngully and Tinker Bell but also
The 1999-2000 Hallmark Alice in Wonderland and seeing that version of Alice shrink.
Honey I Blew Up The Kid with the babysitter who I had a crush on and somehow with that microsecond of her shrunk at the end started something.
Strange Days at Blake Holsey High for sure I think was the gasoline. And finding Minimizer’s site an the SW Archive of links at 13-14 at my uncles house. It really exploded my fetish.
And here we are.

Well, I’m not even going to try being original with my origin story… it’s King Kong 1976. I was around 6 or 7 when it randomly aired on TV, and it unlocked my desire for tiny girls.
A vivid memory from the day right after : the neighbor (girl, my age) and I talked about seeing the movie, and somehow we decided to recreate the scene where King Kong blows air on Dwan. I climbed a tree in front of her house, about 10 feet up. Sitting on a branch, I closed one eye and put my palm in front of me, looking down at her on the ground and pretending to be “holding” her in my palm. She played along, acting the part, and while of course this was purely innocent, my young mind was blown and I still remember that childhood moment.
Also in Quebec we had access to a lot of weird French and Japanese cartoons that featured shrinking, I always hoped for episodes w/ shrinking girls. It was a common trope for 80s/90s cartoons.

@foreverlurk Heh, you’ve unlocked a memory from my childhood… I remember playing on the playground with a couple of friends and somehow we fell into the whole hand-perspective thing. They’d pretend to “hold” me in their hand and then hold up a gap between their fingers like “you look THIS small to me.” Then I’d back up from them and they’d do it again “now you look THIS small!” I kept backing up until I was on the other side of the soccer field and presumably looked like a speck on their hand, and then after I ran back there were many exclamations of “wow, you were so tiny!!”
I think this memory makes me happy because 1) I love the whole shrinking smaller and smaller to micro sizes thing and 2) sometimes as a kid I’d get paranoid that I was bothering friends with too many shrinking games, but in this case they were really engaged, and I love it when the giant is just as excited about the size difference as I am.
Like you, it was all innocent at the time, but it was definitely formative!

Whoa, wait - shrinking games? You had those, too?! OMG my poor normie friends were subjected sooo many times to my pretend games of shrinking. I stopped bringing them up when I started to get the feeling they were on to me. Children have such amazing interior worlds and imagination!
I’m amazed how common all our stories are - even from the other gender/size of things. Incredible I thought for so long I was the only one, and that there was something profundly wrong with me.

The most I ever dared do was to slip some Size into our D&D campaigns. I was very sparing lest they figure it out. Perhaps three times over twenty years or so.

My earliest realizations came from a couple of weirder sources. There was a Goosebumps book, I think it was Monster Blood, where one of the characters turns into a giant. The other is the intro to the Beavis and Butthead movie.
-
Where’s Waldo.
There was a book that had a land of giants. It fascinated me. -
@foreverlurk Yes! I would do it all the time until I got old enough to realize no one else would be excited in quite the same way I was.
Instead of Magic School Bus we played Magic Playground. That way we would visit all kinds of places in our imaginations, it just so happened that a lot of them involved being tiny, just like in the show.
We also played Animorphs (I can’t remember how popular it was, but it was a book series where the kids get the ability to turn into animals). Again, could turn into all sorts of animals and have all sorts of imaginary adventures, but I tended to turn into very small animals for stealth missions.
I also remember pretending that my scissors were a shrinking device that would shrink whatever was cut, and we played with shrinking our pencils or whatever in class, until I pretended I “cut” myself (these were super round/blunt scissors, I swear it was much more silly and innocent than it sounds lol). That’s how I tested which of my friends would be down with shrinking games. One of the guys I knew really seemed to enjoy it, he would “take me home” and tell me about the “adventures he took me on,” so that was great. (Except this guy was an asshole and honestly a cruel giant but my third grade self didn’t know any better and I guess I was desperate lol).

I was a teen when I played D&D regularly, and aware of the sexual side of size things.Too uncomfortable for me to have shrinking in our sessions, I think. A shame because I do remember a couple of Forgotten Realms campaigns using size reduction creatively, like this one alchemist having to treat a sick girl with an ultra rare onguent, having only has a small dose, so he shrinks her to six inches tall - problem solved! Well, until a Zin / snake-spirit decides to capture her while she’s tiny. It’s from the “The Talking Tent”, in the Al-Qadim’s setting. :

In the same setting, there are ruins of a city where every citizen were shrunk out of their armor/clothes to the size of insects :
- “To cease hostilities, aid from a Djinni was sought out of desperation by the humans. The djinni took their plea quite literally, shrinking every citizen of Vahtov to the size of insects. Since no one was now able to lift their weapons, all lost the taste for war. One week later the citizens were consumed by a flock of ravens from the Pit of the Ghuls. Only a small band escaped by hiding in the wilderness. These survivors set aside their differences and founded a new city deep within a crack in the ground. This secret city was rumored to still exist, filled with the miniscule descendants, none of them larger than a man’s thumb.”

Magic School Bus, and Animorphs, I knew about those but I was older by then, still I can clearly see how those were triggers for imagination games.

LOL!
And I like your subtle system to “detect” which friends were receptive, very clever. The things we… -
@foreverlurk oh my, another 1976 King Kong macro origin… Haha jk. I LOVE reading the similarities in everyone’s story, it shows just how connected all of us are!
You climbing 10 ft into a tree to reenact that scene with your neighbor friend is adorable and so creative. Did you guys ever try to recreate any other shrunken scenarios?I didn’t get to play any shrinking games with my friends, I remember feeling pretty shy/embarrassed about wanting to be tiny so I did my best to hide it.
If we were watching something and suddenly a character shrunk or if there was some kind of interaction with a giant my face would turn bright red, I’d sweat a little too… then I would quickly look around the room to see who was reading my macro thoughts
Now I’m much more (if not painfully) vocal about my fetish -

No, it was really a spur of the moment thing, we weren’t even that close. Its such a strong memory and I had never shared it with anyone, I though I’d take that little moment of childhood bliss to my grave.

Argh, same! Like I said, cartoons were my primary source of SW when I was young, and almost every series had a shrinking episode. I felt, and still feel a non negligible amount of shame about this fetish (working on it!), so the few times it happened were really embarrassing.
So, you know that Captain Planet episode where the russian girl shrank out of her clothes? With the handheld at the end? Yeah, well the first time I ever watched that was at a birthday party. With like 10 other kids. From my school.
Kill. Me. Now.

@smlngndn
…I always loved the book where the boy finally was the one to grow in Monster Blood. It was also, ironically, introduction to my least favorite ending to that kind of thing: he shrunk at the end. God I hated that. Couldn’t he just have started growing again like everything else always did?
