A cool scenario, people are so distracted by their tech/smartphone that they make an easy target for shrink-napping. I wonder if people IRL realize that being too distracted can make you a victim in a heartbeat.

@i-am-insane there’s one book that I always think of when I read that sort of story. Flux, by Stephen Baxter, is about very small people in the far future, living inside of a neutron star and the kinds of problems they’d have to deal with in an environment on that scale. It’s ostensibly “hard” science fiction, and the author is pretty well-known for the outlandish but supposedly plausible concepts that he brings into his stories. He’s also one of the grimmest hard SF writers I’ve read. His worlds are just very, very bleak. BUT he wrote a story that deals with the actual physics of a society of microscopic people, so props for that.

“Yeah.”

Honestly, I’m all for the bouncy ball idea. I’d use it like a yoga ball. I’d especially love it if I got to put the quarter in one of machines where you turn the quarter to get the toy. I remember a huge one at Old Navy where the balls rolled down a spiral before you got it. I would be a tiny pet forever if I got to do that every week. 😜

@Kondo Then I would start small, pointing at an object and saying your word for it, move her into a specific position, and say the word for it. Something that helps with my non-English speaking coworkers is using hand motions to reinforce what I’m saying.

Another thing that can help you build a bond with your new pet is learning some of her language, even if you only get a few words or phrases. With a little effort, you two could one day hold entire conversations speaking every other word in the other’s language.

Naturally, if your relationship is less one between owner and companion and more one between toy and user, then I wouldn’t worry about what she’s saying.
