It’s what frustrates me about that movie when I think about it; hell, it bugged me when I first watched it, though I didn’t understand why: they set up the narrative of ‘an ogre is a scary monster’ for the entire movie run off of, and then do nothing to make that make sense, even though they acted like it was a thing. If they had gone for a different take, and made it so ogres were misunderstood or something, it would have worked with the Shriek we got, but it seems to be saying ogres are scary monsters, but Shriek is a lazy bum so it doesn’t matter?

It’s sort of doing both at once and neither, so the point kind of gets lost beyond ‘Shriek isn’t bad’.

@Olo I don’t think I’ve ever thought of this but it resonates so much 😆 Back when I’d RP I did tend to tell people that I like it rough, maybe this is what I meant all along.

So I’ve been pretty deep into Baldur’s Gate 3 lately. And Gale, the NPC wizard companion, who my player character is dating, would make a plausible giant or shrinker.

If you read between the lines of his storyline, he seems like a D/s sub, but, I think he has it in him to be a switch. And he can tap into crazy amounts of magic, enough to cast a stronger Enlarge / Reduce spell.

I made him cast Enlarge on himself to get past these jumps that he kept on failing, and it gave me Feelings I should have expected. If there were enough spell slots he would always run around like that.

And to anyone who knows the game: I also tried to romance Astarion, the sexy vampire, but it failed, because he only bonds with you if you do kinda chaotic sadistic actions, but my player character acts nobly in this game.

I’ve thought of this is a scenario too, and it tends to centre around themes of loneliness, feelings of inadequacy and trying to rebuild (physically, emotionally, etc.) after a major event. Giving him some sort of consciousness still makes me feel some obligation to expand on his perspective, especially if it also adds depth to their eventual relationship (call me a romantic). But I agree - it is a slightly better alternative to engaging with a tiny man character.

I’m not inherently against F/m and SM content. For me, it just comes with a lot of baggage. But if it makes sense to include or adds to the story (even better), then I can put a lot of that baggage aside. I think with this trope, I can then do away with it entirely once the first part ends 🙂

@SillyLilBug I haven’t reached it yet but I’m pretty sure it’s a (possibly unmissable?) story beat in Act 2.

Had a story idea kicking around in my head for a while now about a tiny spy that has a normal sized partner that she can use as a walking antenna. Only to have her cover blown and then her needing to find another person she can jack to upload the evidence she needs.

You are into this being tiny thing. You love being in Brodigan or whatever. You are, perhaps, unhealthily into it… and it concerns your giant owner. That is, in fact, the reason why she picked up in the first place: you were running full tilt towards the nearest person you could find, never mind things like cars or stomping feet.

She knows that madness would only get worse if you finally meet her boyfriend, and she’s deeply worried about your increasingly determined escape attempts. She’s slowly escalating her efforts to keep you safe in her room, without just locking you in a box or something, because she’s nice like that, and meanwhile the boyfriend is starting to notice her efforts and increased worries.

@Kisupure The thing about cats is that you can declaw them. You want to “declaw” your tiny to the best of your ability. That’s why I always keep her barefoot, so she can’t kick me with her pointy-toed heels, use her stilettos as if they were LITERAL stilettos, etc.

@starslayer I think the best way I can answer this is describing my own experience being small… in VR! Because as much as I enjoy the idea of being tiny, I know that if it was real there would still be quite a bit of fear there - not sure how much you want to delve into that aspect in your story. However it’s obviously safe in VR, so I was free to really enjoy it. I definitely did a lot of looking around at how big everything was and explored, but what I was most excited about was meeting giants and fellow tinies. I felt a bit shy at first (and honestly a bit intimidated by the size difference), but once I got over that I kept having to remind myself that giants need personal space too, because it was just sooo exciting to be picked up and interacted with. So once I made friends I became more liberal about hugging fingers, climbing up in their lap or on their shoe, basically harrying them for attention 😆

Tiny female detective and her partner who is a regular sized person, she deciphers all the clues and sees the details a normal sized being can’t, the partner just drives her to the scenes and arrests the criminals.
